Hyderabad: Students studying in the deemed to be universities and their parents can now approach the University Grants Commission (UGC) for redressal of their grievances.
It may be mentioned here that earlier the UGC has put in place Students Grievance Redressal Mechanism (SGRM) for the students studying in the public and private universities.
Besides, parents of the students were also allowed to approach the UGC for redressal of their grievances. However, students from the deemed to be varsities have so far been deprived of the facility which their counterparts are given.
Against this backdrop and in line with the MHRD's policy to make all government services made available to the citizens electronically, the UGC has launched a separate web portal for the deemed to be universities.
Accordingly, the portal makes available detailed information about the universities, existing deemed to be universities. For this, the varsities were directed to submit all their academic outcomes and performance on-line.
Also, applications for deemed to be universities status from now onwards will be received on-line by the UGC.
That apart, applications for off-campus centres, off-shore campus centres, new courses, new departments, new schools will be received online by the apex higher education body.
In a circular sent to all the deemed to be universities, the UGC said as per the existing regulations of 2019 notified the universities shall upload the details.
It said performance and academic outcomes of all institutions deemed to be universities, based on public disclosures on various performance parameters shall be monitored by the UGC.
As part of this, all the universities shall upload the performance report on each aspect and academic parameters along with all supporting documents on the UGC web portal immediately.
The deemed to be universities have to submit the details from November 1 to December 31, every year.
It also warned action against those failing to comply and upload the details within the specified time limits.
A far as students, parents and the general public is concerned they can approach the portal for redressal of their grievances related to the deemed to be universities visiting the UGC website or deemed.ugc.in, it added.
