Hyderabad: Legislative Council Chairman G Sukhender Reddy on Saturday said that the Congress governments just laid foundation stones for the irrigation projects for namesake whereas the TRS government was completing all the projects with commitment.
Addressing a press conference, here, at the Assembly Committee Hall Sukhender Reddy said that as a person living in South Telangana he had the responsibility to tell truth to the people of the State.
He questioned that, why the protesting Congress did not construct the projects while they were in power. He took pot shots at the comments of MP Komatireddy Venkata Reddy stating that the Congress leader talks all lies.
Sukhender Reddy also said that the GO 203 issued by Andhra Pradesh government was illegal and it would be an injustice to the people of Telangana. However, he said that the Andhra Pradesh government cannot take even one drop of water illegally till K Chandrashekar Rao is the Chief Minister of the State.
The opposition parties should give good suggestions to the government instead of making false allegations and flaring up regional tensions, he advised the opposition.
The Council chairman recalled that former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu formed a six-member committee to examine whether a lift should be constructed or a tunnel should be dug for Srisailam backwaters.
The committee suggested construction of a lift and works were also started.
However, during YS Rajasekhara Reddy, government took up Pothireddypadu Head Regulator and also started tunnel works simultaneously to ensure people of Telangana do not protest. Reddy further informed that the tunnel works were started in 2005 and so far the government spent Rs 943 crore on this.
Works pertaining to 10 kilometre distance were remaining. During 2009, because of huge water flow, gates were opened in Srisailam and machines got stuck as water entered into the tunnel.
When the company refused to take up works, government paid Rs 200 crore and also provided power to ensure works continue.
The Council chairman questioned the silence of Congress leaders like K Jana Reddy and others for their silence and alleged that they were silent because they were afraid of losing their posts.
