Hyderabad: City woman escapes from clutches of recruiter abroad in Chanchalguda

Chanchalguda: An aspiring beautician who was lured of good prospects in Muscat, Oman, and landed there as a housemaid, and was made to toil for 15-18 hours a day. She recently escaped from the clutches of recruitment agency, and made it to the Indian Embassy. She is currently housed at a shelter home by the Indian authorities.

In a letter addressed to Dr. Subramanyam Jayshankar, Union Minister for External Affairs, the mother of Nasreen Begum, Bibi Fatima, appealed for safe return of her daughter.

A resident of Falaknuma, Nasreen was in search of job due to her bad financial conditions. She was approached by local agents of Hafez Baba Nagar and Kishen Bagh and was offered the job of a beautician with a good salary in Muscat. Her mother informed that Nasreen travelled to Muscat on October 9 and was received by another agent who in turn handed her over to Shumukh Muscat AIRaida Manpower Recruitment. She was asked to work as a 'housemaid,' but when she objected to working as a housemaid she was threatened and beaten up in the office.

With no option left, she agreed to work as a housemaid and was sent to work in one house where she worked for two months. Thereafter, she was sent to another house where she worked for one month. "She was being asked to work for a minimum of 15 to 18 hours daily without proper food and accommodation . She fell ill and returned to the recruitment office. The recruitment office is demanding that she can be relieved only if she pays them Rs 2 lakh. As she belongs to a very poor family she could not pay that much amount. Already her three-month salary was taken by the recruitment office.

Due to unbearable torture, my daughter ran away and approached the Indian Embassy in Muscat, where she is lodged in the shelter home of the embassy," Bibi Fatima informed.
