Hyderabad: Division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akhtar on Monday served notices on the Principal Secretary, Home, and the Director General of Police on a Public Interest Petition (PIL) challenging the indefinite detention of vehicles and sending communication to private organisations on their employees being caught on drunk and drive charges.

Petitioner, V Prudhvi Krishna, represented by advocate Umesh Chandra PVG, approached the court against the indefinite detention of vehicles in drunk and drive cases.

The petitioner termed the police action as illegal, arbitrary and ultra vires the Constitution. The petitioner further submitted to court that information about those caught in drunk and drive cases was being sent to their employers.

Such an action was against the safeguards enshrined in the Constitution and abuse of legal process. The bench after serving notices on the respondents posted the matter to July 22 for further hearing.

Plea on Secretariat rejected

The bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akhtar rejected a lunch motion request made during the mentions time before the bench on Monday.

The counsel submitted before the court that lunch motion petition must be taken up immediately as the government is contemplating demolition of buildings at the Secretariat.

However, the bench denied hearing the lunch motion petition as there was no urgency in the matter and directed the counsel to file a regular petition.
