High alert in border areas of Adilabad
High alert has been sounded in the inter-State border areas in erstwhile Adilabad district following the Maoist attack on police party in Maharashtra recently.
Adilabad: High alert has been sounded in the inter-State border areas in erstwhile Adilabad district following the Maoist attack on police party in Maharashtra recently. Police intensified combing operations in Pranahita river basin areas suspecting that the Maoists might have entered the district after carrying out the blasts.
As many as 16 security personnel including a driver were killed after moist attacked a police vehicle at Kurkhed forest area in Gadchilroli district of Maharashtra on Wednesday. The attackers reportedly used improvised explosive device (IED). The incident created disturbance in the district in view of upcoming territorial constituency elections.
The day before IED blast, Maoist had set ablaze 36 vehicles. Shocked over the incident Asifabad, Mancheirla, Adilabad districts police sounded a high alert in the inter-State border areas.
Police instructed political leaders not to campaign in remote and Maharashtra bordering areas in view of territorial constituency elections. Police have enhanced the security of popular leaders. The incident took place 75 kms from the district border area. Police suspect that Maoists from Adilabad district were also involved in the incident.
The residents of the villages falling in Bejjuru, Kortapalli, Sipur, Vemanapalli, Dahegov, Chennur, Nennela mandals are worrying as police will fight back the Maoists.
In view of Zilla Parishad, Mandal Parishad territorial constituency elections which will be held in three phases on May 6, 10 and14 police deployed central paramilitary forces. Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancheirla, Adilabad district SPs sounded the high alert after official meeting.
Police intensified checking operations at interstate border check posts. While special police parties conducting search operations in Maoist affected villages, they are suspecting that after the incident in Ghadchiroli district, Maoists may be entered into the district borders through the Pranahitha river basin. Both Maharashtra and Telangana States police are taking part in the combing operations.
