Hanamkonda: The Warangal Urban district administration has massive plans for plantation of saplings as part of the fifth phase of Haritha Haram programme. In a meeting with the officials of various State departments here on Tuesday, Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil said that saplings raised in the nurseries run by the gram panchayats should be distributed in nearby villages.
"The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) should take up plantation drive on a massive note in all its divisions. So is Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA). The KUDA officials have to identify the blocks wherever plantation of saplings is required," Patil said.
Referring to the importance of increasing the plantation drive, he directed the officials to set targets bigger than previous year in coordination with the staff working at field-level. He stressed the need for the preparation of inventory of saplings available in the nurseries.
"The onus is on the newly appointed Panchayat Secretaries to see the survival rate of saplings at 85 per cent so that to secure their jobs," the Collector said. He further warned the officials that any complacency in discharging their duties would lead to stringent action. He told the Women Development and Child Welfare officials to take up plantation of guava, pomegranate, drumstick, curry leaves etc saplings in the 799 Anganwadi centres in the Urban district.
Emphasising the need for plantation of fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees on the bunds of farm fields, he directed the agriculture officials to chalk out a plan in coordination with the agriculture extension officers. The Collector told the R&B wing to take up avenue plantation, and Education department to focus on saplings that enhance the beauty of surroundings. DFO Ramalingam, GWMC Commissioner N Ravikiran and DRDO Ramu were among other officials present.
