Haritha Haram is unique programme, says Collector
The kind of impetus being given to improve the greenery in Telangana is something unique that other States in the country could not even think about it, Warangal Rural District Collector M Haritha said launching the mega plantation drive in Sangem mandal on Saturday.
Warangal: The kind of impetus being given to improve the greenery in Telangana is something unique that other States in the country could not even think about it, Warangal Rural District Collector M Haritha said launching the mega plantation drive in Sangem mandal on Saturday.
Warangal Rural district has so far achieved plantation of more than one crore saplings this season as against its target of 2.21 crore under Telanganaku Haritha Haram. Expressing confidence that the target would be achieved very soon, Haritha stressed the need of improving greenery which not only protect the environment from pollution but also increases the ever depleting ground water table. Referring to the acute water shortage faced by some of the neighbouring States, she stressed the need for proper management of water resources.
It may be noted here that as per the Collector's directions, the authorities organised plantation drive covering State-run institutions and offices etc for plantation of 1 lakh saplings in each of the 16 mandals in the district.
"Efforts were on to improve groundwater table in six blocks- Wardhannapet, Raiparthy, Sangem, Geesugonda, Nallabelli and Duggondi - under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan," Haritha said.
Jal Shakti Abhiyan nodal officer Prashanta Kumar Swain who also participated in the plantation drive said that they have been trying to bring awareness about water conservation methods with the support of district officials and people's representatives.
Parkal MLA Challa Dharma Reddy appealed to people to participate actively in the Haritha Haram and the Jal Shakti Abhiyan activities. "The responsibility is not just on the State government but also on the people to protect the environment," Reddy said.
