Furore over Inter results fiasco
- Student organisations, parents and opposition leaders storm Board of Intermediate office
- Cong leaders demand sacking of Education Minister and action against Board officials
- Demand free evaluation of papers
Hyderabad: Student organisations, opposition leaders and parents of the failed students on Monday stormed the Board of Intermediate Education office over the Inter results fiasco.
Tension gripped the board as police resorted to a lathicharge to dispel the crowd. Several persons, including TPCC working president A Revanth Reddy and representatives of NSUI, ABVP and BJYM and other student organisations have been taken into preventive custody.
Parents and teachers questioned as to why the government was not reacting to the fiasco.
Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao, who responded to a posting on facebook with regard to a land issue, was not taking quick measures to see that the career of the genuine students was not affected, they said.
It may be mentioned here that due to mistake of the Board as many as 15 students who were declared failed have committed suicide.
It was found that the mistakes committed by the Intermediate Board was the cause of the failure of some of the students who took the extreme step. But the board maintains that the it was functioning in a transparent manner.
Parents and Congress leaders demanded that the Education Minister should own the responsibility for this and that the chief minister should ask him to quit.
They also demanded that stringent action against the negligence of Board officials be taken. Students and parents demanded free revaluation of the papers.
Student organisations, including ABVP, NSUI and others reached the Board premises and staged protest demanding action against Inter Board secretary Ashok Kumar and other officials for bungling of the results which forced the students to take extreme step.
As the situation became tense, the Board secretary asked the officials to close the gates. This worsened the situation further. Protesting students tried to jump the wall to enter the board office.
When the protesters removed the barricades, which were installed to obstruct their entry, scuffle took place between the students and the police.
Congress leaders A Revanth Reddy, Sampath Kumar and Anil Kumar Yadav reached the Board office and staged protest.
They demanded immediate resignation of Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy and strong action against the Board secretary and other officials.
They criticised the Chief Minister for not reacting on the situation even after students committed suicides and large number of parents came on to the roads to agitate against the failure of the Board seeking justice to their children.
Once again, a scuffle took place when they arrested the Congress leaders. The Congress leaders were shifted to Begum Bazar police station.
TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy visited the police station and extended his support to the leaders and criticised police and government for arresting their leaders who are fighting for the students
