Hyderabad: School education and fee reimbursement get the lion share out of the Rs 14,894 crore proposed in the State budget for the financial year of 2020-21.

Presenting the budget in the State Legislative Council here on Sunday, Roads and Buildings Minister, Vemula Prashanth Reddy said Rs 2,650 crore is proposed to meet the fee reimbursement and Rs 10,421 crore for the school education department.

He said to provide education with international standards to the poor people the State government has started residential education institutions on a large scale.

It is running 959 Residential Educational Institutions (REIs) for SC, ST, BC and Minority students for providing education with high standards along with nutritious meals and accommodation.

That apart, it is also providing overseas scholarships up to Rs.20 lakhs for SC, ST, BC and minority students for study abroad scheme.

He highlighted that apart from funds for the education department, the government is spending for maintenance of residential schools, fee reimbursement, scholarships for improving education in the State.

The government proposed a sum of Rs 1,723,27 crore for the Higher Education and Rs 100 for implementing various programmes chalked for the eradication of illiteracy.
