Dug-up road poses risk to pedestrians

Talabkatta: The pending works of drainage system is posing risks to the residents, particularly school going kids at Talabkatta Road no 1 in Yakutpura.

Recently, due to open nala two children leaving to school in early morning hours fell into the drain grievously injuring one.

The works of open drain in a lane at Talabkatta was started more than 2 months back.

The whole lane including the opposite lane is dug-up for laying of new pipeline.

In the last 2-months not even half of the work has been completed and the residents were getting frustrated due to the delay.

"The pipeline works along with slab in the lane near the railway track in Talabkatta and passing through the Road no 1 were started about 2 months back and even after releasing of sanctioned amount, the works have not yet been completed due to the negligence of officials," said Abdul Rahman, a social activist.

Abdul Rahman told the The Hans India that as per the details obtained through RTI, for the works of new pipe line and slab over the drain an amount of Rs 24 lakh was sanctioned and the whole amount was released.

But the works were pending. The works were going on for only 3-4 days in a week and the residents are suffering a lot due to the open drain and the dug-up road," he added.

He also claimed that old pipelines were being used for the project, even though sanctioned amount was for new pipelines.

"Even if the works are completed, if the authorities use old pipes it would be of no use, as they would remain intact and the issue of drainage would continue. The officials must inspect and take necessary action against them," he noted.

A frustrated resident, Syed Ahmed said, "For completion of the works hardly 15-20 days will be enough. But the works were going on for almost 2 months and we the residents were suffering a lot."

"Due to dug-up roads we residents have no place to walk or to park a vehicle, as almost all road has been dug-up. Even to walk near the open drain poses danger." said Ahmed.

According to GHMC officials, the works of pipe line will be completed in next 3-4 days and the works of the slab over the drain will be completed by 10 days, said Ekambaram, Deputy Assistant Engineer.
