Vikarabad: Progress of a nation is achieved through the development of villages. Because a major part of country's population lives in villages. Panchayat secretaries play a key role in the progress of rural regions. In August last year, the government had announced the recruitment for posts of panchayat secretaries and lakhs of candidates submitted their applications across the state. Thousands applied from the district as well.

They appeared for the test on October 10. Results were declared on December 17. Verification of certificates has also been completed. But, the further recruitment proceedings were held due to court proceedings. The district administration in accordance with the directions from the government stopped the recruitment completely.

There are 565 panchayats in the district. As many as 432 villages facing several issues due to lack of secretaries. A large number of candidates from the district have been eagerly waiting for the appointment of junior panchayat secretaries. They had to compete for 429 vacancies only. The selected candidates are unhappy with the delay in appointment process.

Due to the scarcity of staff, each Panchayat Secretary has been forced to take care of three to four Panchayats. They are not even available to the public. People complain that they have to chase them to get their grievances redressed or to attend to other issues. Due to coordination gap, issues like sanitation, de-siltation, street lights and drinking water etc., have not been addressed properly in villages.
