Khammam: Opposing the decision of the Central government to merge profit-making Andhra Bank with Union Bank of India, the leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Tuesday staged a protest in the district.
The party leaders staged the protest near all Andhra Bank branches in the district and raised anti-government slogans. Addressing the agitators, the CPI(M) and CITU leaders rubbished the decision of the Central government and demanded it to withdraw the decision immediately.
They also warned of intensifying their protest if the government failed to rollback its decision.
Meanwhile, at a meeting held in Khammam on Tuesday, CPI(M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram opposed the Central government's decision of merging banks and condemned the BJP government's finance policies.

Party leaders P Sudarshan, Nunna Nageswara Rao, P Venkateswara Rao, K Venkateswara Rao and Lenin, Bharathi and others attended the meeting.
