CM KCR has no right to remove unions, claim RTC workers

Hyderabad: The TSRTC unions on Sunday said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's thought of not having unions in the Corporation was unconstitutional. They said the Chief Minister had no right to remove unions.
The TSRTC Employees Union general secretary K Raji Reddy said that the officials were forcibly taking signatures of the workers.
He alleged that the government's decision to have workers council was part of the conspiracy to break down the unity the workers showed during the 55 days of strike.
The EU leader asked the workers to show the same unity they showed by ignoring the deadlines of the Chief Minister during the strike period to save the unions.
He asked the workers to know the facts before signing the letters under pressure from the depot managers or supervisors.
The trade union Act came into effect in 1926 and formation of union is the fundamental right of citizens as per Article 19 (1)(c) of Constitution.
Later, the Act was amended during 1929, 1947, 1960, 1964 and 2001. If the Chief Minister wants to remove unions, amendment should be brought in Parliament and it cannot be amended in Assembly, said Raji Reddy.
The recognised unions get right to take up discussions with the management as per Section 28F, he said.
