Centre, State pulled up for non-roll out of EWS quota

Hyderabad : The High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the State and the Central governments directing them to file a counter affidavit with regard to non-roll out of reservations to Economically Weaker Sections in the State.

The High Court bench comprising of Justices A Rajasekhar Reddy and Bollam Vijaysen Reddy heard the plea filed by A Bhasker Raj, president, Telangana OBC Morcha and Anand Gupta, who alleged non-implementation of 10 per cent of reservation to EWS candidates in the State in educational institutions and jobs in the government sector.

Petitioner's counsel T Rajasekhar informed the court that already the State had been implementing 10 per cent reservations in medical admissions, but was not extending the same to other courses such as engineering etc. He stated that though the State was issuing EWS certificates and enabling students get admissions in other States, the same was not practiced in Telangana.

Justice Rajasekhar Reddy queried with Government Pleader P Nageshwar Rao and sought to know why the State government was not implementing the EWS reservation policy in the State, and by what time it intended to implement.

Justice Rajasekhar Reddy issued notices to the Union government, represented by Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment; Chief Secretary, Telangana; Special Chief Secretary, Education; Principal Secretary, GAD and Principal Secretary, Social Welfare and directed to file the counter affidavits within four weeks.

HC hears Cong plea against flood relief distribution by TRS govt

Hyderabad : The High Court division bench comprising Justice A Rajasekhar Reddy and Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy on Tuesday heard a public interest litigation filed by Dr Dasoju Sravan, spokesperson, AICC, urging to inquire into the alleged excesses perpetrated by the MLAs, corporators and ward-level leaders of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi while disbursing amounts intended for flood relief measures.

Further, Sravan alleged that the State government has been blatantly violating the GO and resorting to illegal and immoral practices instead of distributing the promised flood relief amount of Rs 10,000 through cheques to identified beneficiaries.

He alleged cash was being distributed arbitrarily in many cases with just Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 being handed over to victims, which was illegal.

In his plea, Sravan urged the court to direct the Chief Secretary of the State to apprise the court of the procedure formulated by the State government pertaining to disbursement of funds earmarked for flood relief victims.

The High Court issued notices to the State government to file counter affidavit and directed the Registry to list the matter after Sankranti vacation.

High Court orders to hold polls within 2 months

Hyderabad : The High Court division bench headed by Justice MS Ramachandra Rao on Tuesday issued key directions on Jubilee Hills Housing Society elections.

Two writ petitions were filed seeking to direct the State government authorities to conduct an impartial and free and fair election to the managing committee of the Jubilee Hills Co-operative Housing Society only after preparing/finalising the voters list by including all the eligible members of the Society, including the petitioners herein by strictly following mandatory procedure envisaged under Telangana State Cooperative Societies Act, 1964 and Telangana State Cooperative Societies Rules, 1964, particularly Rule 22 of TSCS Rules.

Justice MS Ramachandra Rao directed to prepare and publish a new list with eligible voters and to complete the election process within two months. After the completion of two weeks from the date of publication, the High Court would receive any objections and claims.

The final voters list should be released after the final scrutiny by the Personnel In-Charge Committee and have to send the voters' list to the Telangana Registrar/ Co-operative Society.

The High Court has directed the Registrar Cooperative Societies to certify the changes if any in the list. The voters list approved by the Registrar should be submitted to the Personnel In-charge Committee/State Cooperative Election Authority.

The High Court has directed to complete the election process within two months from Tuesday.
