Karimnagar: Bathukamma festival is the symbol of Telangana culture and tradition, stated Zilla Parishad chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya, while participating in Bathukamma celebrations organised for the women public representatives and ZP women staff in the premises of Zilla Parishad here on Friday.

ZP chief K Vijaya and District Revenue Officer Praveenya lighted the lamps to commence the celebrations. Later, they played Bathukamma along with the women ZPTCs and staff.

Speaking on the occasion, ZP chief K Vijaya said that preparing Bathukamma with flowers available in nature and respecting it in the name of festival is the unique culture of Telangana.

All the women folks present across 33 districts will participate happily in Bathukamma celebrations and play for nine days starting from Petra Amavasya to Saddula Bathukamma. Knowing the importance of this festival, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has been distributing Bathukamma saris to women below poverty line as a gift for the festival, she added.

Vijaya appealed all the women present across the State to celebrate the festival with happy and joy. Marketing Department AD Padmavathi, District Welfare Department in-charge Officer Ch Sharada, CDPO K Sabitha, Anganwadi workers, folk artists and ZP CEO Madhava Rao were present along with others.
