Narayanpet: Narayanpet is one of the oldest municipalities in Telangana after Hyderabad. But development wise, the municipality lags behind others in the State.

According to Narayanpet residents, in spite of repeated protests and road blockades by the locals on the issues of laying of roads, construction of sewer lines and supply of water to colonies, the municipal officials and political leaders alike are least bothered to respond to their pleas.

The people are complaining that only during protests, the officials come out and promise to take up repairs to roads and drains and do little work here and there and then leave it pending without completing the works. "It has been more than two years since the launch of road expansion works in Narayanpet municipality. The road works are left incomplete due to which the main road has become dusty causing lot of inconvenience to commuters," said Hanmanthu, a resident of the municipality.

Very recently, the people of Narayanpet staged a protest demanding laying of road connecting Narayanpet and Damargidda. Even though funds were sanctioned, the works were not yet taken up. "All other road works which were taken up later were completed. However, the Damargidda-Narayanpet road is left pending. With thousands of vehicles passing by this road, potholes and concrete pebbles making the ride a nightmare for the commuters," said Narayana, a resident of Sainagar Colony of the municipality.

Currently, the Narayanpet municipality has no proper water pipeline system. The officials are pumping the Mission Bhagiratha water through old pipelines. However, dur to heavy pressure, the old pipelines are getting damaged and there is no one to take up repairs even for 10-15 days causing water problems in the colonies.

"We expected faster development after Narayanpet was declared district headquarters. But there are no sufficient doctors and staff in hospitals. Out of 140 staff, only 40 are working in the hospital. Except pregnant cases, other cases are referred to Mahbubnagar district hospital," said Sarap Raju from Narayanpet.

However, the TRS leaders led by MLA Rajender Reddy state that real development of Narayanpet was witnessed only during TRS regime and very soon they will come out with a comprehensive plan. "Many development works have been initiated, some are going on and some are pending due to court cases. In the coming days, Narayanpet will be developed model municipality," added that legislator.
