Assembly session wrapped up sans direction, seriousness, says BRSLP

Deputy Leader of the BRSLP slams CR Patil’s remarks on Kaleshwaram
Hyderabad: T Harish Rao, Deputy Leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRSLP), on Tuesday said the recently concluded Assembly session ended without direction, seriousness, or accountability to the people of Telangana, as they had expected clarity on the six guarantees but instead witnessed disappointment, diversion, and disorder.
He said the public had anticipated meaningful legislative debate, but the session was conducted merely to complete constitutional formalities, pass the budget and bills, and avoid scrutiny. Harish Rao noted that BRS had submitted notices seeking short discussions on 19 key public issues, but the government did not take up even a single one for discussion.
“The Congress government is in such a poor position that it does not have even one flagship programme to proudly present before the people in the House. The Assembly was reduced to a formality. Rules, traditions, and respect for the opposition were completely ignored,” he said. He further alleged that the government avoided direct answers and instead resorted to arrogance, diversion, and personal attacks whenever the opposition raised public concerns.
Harish Rao said the conduct of the session reflected a complete lack of seriousness and respect for the legislature. He pointed out that nearly half the sitting days were held without Question Hour. The Assembly did not begin on time even once—despite BRS suggesting an 8:30 am start, the government fixed 10 am, yet failed to adhere to that timing. He accused the government of running the House without discipline or dignity and likened its functioning to Gandhi Bhavan.
He also criticised the long breaks during proceedings. A four-hour tea break was reportedly given due to the Chief Minister’s return from Delhi, while on another occasion, the House was stalled for three hours as the Finance Minister was “preparing.” “Preparation should happen before entering the Assembly, not after the House is convened,” he remarked. He further alleged that the government deliberately ran the House late into the night to weaken opposition participation and refused to extend the session despite BRS demanding an additional week.
The BRS leader claimed the session was hurriedly concluded on March 30 to suit Congress’s campaign plans in Kerala, questioning whether Telangana’s public issues were being sidelined.
He also alleged that when BRS exposed Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s alleged corruption, the government diverted attention and suspended BRS MLAs to pass key bills without opposition presence.
Harish Rao condemned the remarks made by Union Minister C R Patil on the Kaleshwaram Project in Parliament. He said the language used by the Union Minister was identical to that used by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and that it exposed what he termed a “Fevicol bond” between the BJP and Congress in targeting BRS and Telangana’s achievements. He also objected to claims that Rs 90,000 crore or Rs 1 lakh crore had been “washed away” in the Kaleshwaram project, stating that such remarks were completely disconnected from facts.
