Appointment of VCs to varsities speeded up

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government on Monday issued notifications constituting search committees for the appointment of vice-chancellors to nine state universities

Accordingly, Professor V S Prasad, former Director, NAAC, former VC of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University and Professor T Tirupathi Rao, former VC of Osmania University are nominated as members of the search committee for the appointment of VC for Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University.

The search committee for the appointment of the vice-chancellor for Osmania University comprises of Dr Vijay Prasad Dimri, former Director, NGRI and Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

Similarly, Prof Rameshwar Rao, former Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad and Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari, Member, University Grants Commission (UGC) and Vice-Chancellor, Dr Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh are the members of the search committee for the appointment of a new vice-chancellor for the Kakatiya University, Warangal.

For the appointment of a new vice-chancellor to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H), the search committee members are Prof Jayaprakash Rao, retired Professor of Chemistry, Osmania University and Prof Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Delhi Technical University, Delhi.

Members of the search committee of Satavahana University, Karimnagar are Prof Rameshwar Rao, former Vice-Chancellor, JNTU-H, and Prof Sushma Yadav, Vice-Chancellor of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Sonepat.

Likewise, the search committee members for the Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda are Prof P Jayaprakah Rao, retired Professor of Chemistry, OU, and Prof RC Kuhad, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Haryana.

The search committee for the appointment of vice-chancellor for Dr B R Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad is Prof Mohd Suleman Siddiqui and Prof Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University.

In its notification, the State government constituted a search committee for Telangana University, Nizamabad with Prof VS Prasad, former Director NAAC and former Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU and Prof Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad.

The members of the search committee for the appointment of a new vice-chancellor for the Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar are Prof Mohd Suleman Siddiqui and Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar, Fellow, Indian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences, Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

It may be mentioned here that the search committee is constituted for each university with three members. The University Grant Commission, the executive council of the university concerned and the State government nominate one member each to constitute the search committee.

In turn, the search committee finalises and recommends three names to the State government out of which one will be appointed as the vice-chancellor.

The State government nominated Somesh Kumar, Special Chief Secretary of Revenue Department as its nominee to all the nine search committees.
