Hyderabad: The city police on Sunday detained ten youngsters when they tried to offer prayers at the disputed site in Amberpet.
The police beefed up security at the disputed site after the Darsgah-Jihad-O-Shahadat (DJS) leaders gave a call to their community youngsters to offer afternoon prayers at the site.
In a bid to thwart their attempts, the police took DJS chief Abdul Majid and its leaders Salahuddin Affan and other activists into preventive custody in the morning hours.
Earlier, DJS secretary posted a message on social media asking their community leaders and elders to join hands and come to the disputed site to offer afternoon prayers.
Soon the message went viral on social media which led to heated arguments among many groups. City Police Commissioner Ajani Kumar took measures in order to thwart the efforts of some groups to escalate the tension once again at the disputed site.
He also warned severe action against the persons who were out to disrupt public peace.
Task Force, Armed Reserve in addition to the city police personnel were deployed in the area. Since early morning hours, the police intensified its patrolling in the surrounding areas and prevented any gathering.
But, in the afternoon hours several youngsters from the nearby prayer houses came on to the roads shouting slogans and marched towards the disputed site to offer afternoon prayers.
Police issued several warnings to the youth to disperse from the area, but the youth forcibly tried to move towards the disputed structure which led escalated the tension.
Police teams immediately bundled them into police vehicles and shifted them to undisclosed place. The police also detained ten youngsters.
Earlier, the GHMC authorities, as part of road widening process allegedly demolished a structure which led to tension in the area resulting into stone pelting, which injured eight persons on last Sunday and created tension in Amberpet.
