20 KGBV students fall ill after eating snacks: MLA Patnam Narender Reddy
As many as 20 schoolgirls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Balampet village under Doulatabad mandal in Vikarabad district took ill due to food poisoning on Sunday.
Kodangal: As many as 20 schoolgirls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Balampet village under Doulatabad mandal in Vikarabad district took ill due to food poisoning on Sunday.
The girl students soon after eating snacks provided by the school authorities reported stomachache and started vomiting. The school authorities shifted them to Doulatabad primary healthcare centre immediately.
The authorities said two out of 20 girls developed severe complications and they were administered glucose. The nurses at the primary health centre took care of the students. The duty doctor was, however, found absent. With the doctor being found absent, the two girls, whose conditions is stated to be critical, were shifted to Kodangal hospital for better treatment.
Soon after learning about the girls falling ill, Kodangal MLA Patnam Narender Reddy visited the KGBV and met the affected students. The MLA while enquiring with the concerned schoolteachers inspected the snacks the students and found that it was infested with insects. He immediately directed the District Education Officer Renuka to take action against the concerned schoolteachers.
The DEO Renuka Devi issued demotion orders to Special Officer Ashalatha and in her place senior teacher Basamma was appointed. The MLA warned the teachers and the school authorities concerned that stern action would be taken against them if the same mistake was repeated.
