Today Xiaomi announced to pledge 2,500 new smartphones worth Rs 2 crores to children from a group of people affected by the pandemic. Xiaomi partnered with Teach for India also to help give children access to online learning.

In India, Xiaomi's new efforts will be carried out by the company's retail and distribution partners. Xiaomi also highlighted its past efforts of helping more than 2 lakh families affected due to pandemic lockdown, and more than 10,000 families affected by Cyclone Amphan. Xiaomi also repeated its 'Make in India' commitment that has completed five years. In the announcement, Xiaomi's India head Manu Kumar Jain said 99% of its smartphones are manufactured in India. For its 'Mi for India' campaign, Xiaomi also uncovered a new logo.

Xiaomi's partnership with Teach for India aims to ensure that these latest smartphones are used for education and online learning. "At Mi India, we have always believed in making technology accessible to every Indian. We are very grateful to our retail partners who have come together with Mi India to pledge the 2500+ smartphones under this initiative. Children's education is a cause we will continue to work towards," told Muralikrishnan B, Chief Operating Officer at Mi India.

Xiaomi's latest efforts come amid the growing anti-China sentiments in India. Which made Indians boycott Chinese products and smartphones have been targeted the most. As per the Counterpoint Research, the contribution of Chinese brands dropped in smartphone shipments to 72% in Q2 2020 from 81% in the last quarter. Xiaomi is still the leading smartphone brand with 28% market share in India.
