iPhone SE 3 could be called iPhone SE+ 5G in 2022. An all-new iPhone SE with a 5.7-inch screen will arrive in 2024. According to the latest leaked information, Apple could call the third-generation iPhone SE iPhone SE+ 5G.
After a few months from now, iPhone fans will be introduced to a "new" iPhone SE + 5G! Yes, iPhone SE+ 5G, not iPhone SE 3. According to the latest leaked information, Apple could call the third-generation iPhone SE iPhone SE+ 5G. However, for the first time, Apple will not use the "Plus" moniker for a larger device in the same series. Instead, it could be used to refer to the new chipset.
According to the latest revelations from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the iPhone SE+ 5G is said to stick to its 4.7-inch LCD screen. That means the same design and features carried over from the current iPhone SE that has been around since 2020. However, Young has yet to reveal any other features or aspects of the iPhone SE+ 5G.
All-new iPhone SE in 2023
Young, however, provides some critical information about the next big update to the iPhone SE, which is scheduled for 2024. Apple is working on a total redesign of the iPhone SE for the 2023/2024 update with completely new screen size. This update will bring a 5.7-inch screen, which is currently not in use on any iPhone model in Apple's lineup. Previous rumours had also hinted at the possibility of a 6.1-inch iPhone SE.
This fourth-generation iPhone SE, as Young says, could end up being heavily based on the iPhone 13 Mini. However, the iPhone SE lineup is usually Apple's recycling program for its past iPhone models, and since the Mini models are likely to be phased out this year, Apple could reuse them for the iPhone SE series.
What remains to be seen is whether Apple will bring OLED display technology to the iPhone SE in 2023. Apple has reserved the OLED display for its more expensive and mainstream iPhone models. However, with the iPhone SE 4, Apple could use an entirely new OLED screen.
With rumours that Apple plans to use punch-hole cutouts for its cameras, the iPhone SE 4 could benefit from the same. So with the same small screen and small camera cutout, the 5.7-inch screen size might be possible.
