Alert! Whatsapp To Stop Working on These Smartphones
WhatsApp will also pull support for specific iOS and Android versions from now on
Facebook-owned WhatsApp is the most used instant messaging service worldwide, without which we cannot imagine our life. From primary level to premium flagships WhatsApp finds place almost on all smartphones today.
But now WhatsApp has stopped supporting millions of phones. The messaging app will not work on phones running old OS versions of Android and iOS. WhatsApp had also pulled the plug on all Windows Phone users from December 31, 2019.
WhatsApp had already mentioned in its FAQ that the WhatsApp service wouldn't just stop there, after ending support for Windows Phone OS WhatsApp has announced that it will also pull support for Android phones running on Android 2.3.7 and older, and iOS 8 and earlier won't be able to run the application. On these phones, WhatsApp users will no longer be able to use the app and re-verify their accounts either. Users who still use these phones need to upgrade their devices and open a new WhatsApp account.
WhatsApp said for these operating systems; it does not actively develop the app anymore. Earlier to the deadline, some of these WhatsApp were already facing complications creating new accounts or re-verifying existing accounts. As these OS versions are very old, the change may not actively affect many users, but there are still such active devices across the globe.
The latest update comes after WhatsApp stopped working on devices running Windows Phone. Microsoft also ended the support for Windows 10 Mobile OS in the same month.
Currently, WhatsApp is supporting on phones running Android 4.0.3 and above, and iOS 9 and above. WhatsApp will also support phones running KaiOS 2.5.1 and above which is existing on the JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
Users should ensure that their phone is updated to the above mentioned OS versions so that they can use WhatsApp properly. This also provides regular WhatsApp updates and security.
