Is FaceApp Blocking Indian Users? Find Out
FaceApp, the photo editing app with age filters have made the app viral overnight.
FaceApp, the photo editing app with age filters have made the app viral overnight. The app now seems to be blocking users from India. It is available to download on Android and iOS, from Google Play and Apple's App Store. But, when Indian users try to use the App, it shows an error. Users reported about the FaceApp block on Twitter.
If you are from India and using Android, you might now get an error "Something went wrong, Please try again". iOS users are getting a more cryptic message saying, "ApiRequestError error 6 - Operation couldn't be completed."
FaceApp uses AI to apply various effects to your face. Also, the viral old-age filter has been trending for the last few days. Taking the app to the top spot as the #1 free app in Apple's App Store, and the top three in Google Play at the time of filing this report. Everyone has been posting their FaceApp-ed portrait to social media, not very different from the Prisma-craze three years ago.
FaceApp was first founded in 2017; it is the brainchild of Russia-based Yaroslav Goncharov. It functions on neural networks. In the year 2017, FaceApp was found to have a dedicated "hot" filter that used to "lighten" the skin tone of users. After it sparked outrage among many users, the racist filter was removed.
Not only the old-age filter, but FaceApp can also "make you smile", but a regular photo can also be converted into a smiling one. There is another filter that makes you look younger, yet another FaceApp filter allows you to change your style and experiment with different hairstyles.
