Microsoft Windows 95 completes 25 years; Know more about the first operating system

Microsoft announced Windows 95 its first operating system to the world of computers, twenty-five years ago today. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates announced the Windows 95, and Jay Leno became immensely popular amongst the PC users. Microsoft also hyped the Windows 95 as the first "user-friendly" operating system that came up with lots of exciting features and became a hit amongst first-time buyers.

Microsoft also shared a short video about the evolution of Windows over the years, celebrating 25 years of Windows 95.

"Windows 95 was launched on August 24, 1995, introducing us to many of the experiences our customers still use to interact with their PCs today such as the Start menu and Taskbar. Over the past 25 years, we have evolved these experiences, building on this rich history of innovation," Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager, Windows Insider Program said in a blog post.

 Microsoft launched Windows 95 on August 24, 1995, as the first consumer-oriented operating system. On August 15, 1995, the OS was first made accessible to manufacturing users and later to the retail users.

 The Windows 95 launch event highlight was the inclusion of The Rolling Stones 1981 single "Start Me Up".

 Windows was the first operating system in the 9x family and the successor to Windows 3.1x.

 After the launch, several users bought their first personal computers and became a part of the internet because of Windows 95.

 Windows came up with three most memorable features like Start button, MS Paint, Recycle Bin, and Taskbar option that were revamped continuously.

 The Start menu was rolled out to launch the applications or opening documents on Windows 95. MS Paint became the go-to application of young wannabe painters.

 Windows 95 was then succeeded by Windows 98 that brought many new features and improvements. Google also got launched in the same year.
