Instagram Rolls Out Support for Android 10's Dark Mode
Instagram has updated its platform adding support for Android 10's dark theme
Last month Google rolled out Android 10 to all Pixel and Essential smartphones. Android 10 update brought a dark theme to Android's ecosystem. Now almost after a month, Instagram has updated its platform, adding support for Android 10's dark theme.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram head confirmed the news in a tweet. "Starting today, you can use Instagram in dark mode on iOS 13 or Android 10. Turn dark mode on your phone to try it out," he wrote on Twitter.
Dark mode on Instagram's Android-based app looks similar to its iOS counterpart. The app interface is all dark with the text outstanding in white. There is also an Instagram logo displayed on top. All the segments of the app - such as the IGTV, the Settings and the Profile also have been redesigned to match the system-wide dark theme. The Instagram colours that you find in Instagram after enabling the dark theme is in the Stories section on top. The overall interface is similar to the dark mode available on Instagram's iOS 13 based interface.
Instagram's dark mode is available only on Android 10 powered devices; you can enable Instagram dark mode only if you have a Google Pixel or an Essential smartphone. Though, if you have an Android 9.0 Pie, you will have to wait till you get an Android 10 update on your smartphone to use Instagram's dark mode.
How to enable dark theme in Instagram on your Android 10 powered device? If you have a Google Pixel smartphone, you need to turn on the system-wide dark mode. Once you enabled the dark theme on Android 10 and downloaded the latest version of Instagram on your smartphone. When you open the Instagram app, you will observe the app sport an exact black colour, which looks impressive on an OLED screen. But there is no toggle switch within the app with an option to switch between the light and dark themes, which is similar to the way the app has implemented a dark theme on iOS 13.
Facebook-owned image-sharing Instagram app dark theme is reliant on your smartphone's system-wide dark theme, and there is no way you can turn the lights out on Instagram without switching to dark mode on your smartphone.
