Apple today announced the M5 chip, the largest leap in AI performance and overall computing performance to date.

M5 delivers over 4x faster peak GPU compute performance for AI workloads, a next-generation processor GPU tech innovation with Neural Accelerator in every core, a faster CPU, a faster Neural Engine and up to 3x higher unified memory bandwidth than the M4.

The M5 chip is built on third-generation 3-nanometer technology, which enables the 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, making GPU-based AI workloads orders of magnitude faster, in addition to higher-performance graphics with up to 45% faster graphics performance than M4, enabled by improvements to ray tracing and shading. The CPU in M5 is up to 10 cores, with up to six efficiency cores and four performance cores, and it delivers up to 15% faster multithreaded performance than the previous generation. In addition, Apple has enhanced the 16-core Neural Engine, the media engine and increased the unified memory bandwidth by almost 30%, reaching 153GB/s.

Thanks to a perfect blend of raw power and efficiency, Apple’s latest products powered by M5 — the 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and Apple Vision Pro — achieve new heights in performance without sacrificing battery life. Customers can pre-order all M5-powered devices starting today.

M5 ushers in the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies. “By introducing Neural Accelerators into the GPU, M5 delivers a tremendous boost for AI workloads. Combined with the world’s fastest CPU core, a faster Neural Engine, and higher unified memory bandwidth, M5 unlocks incredible performance and capabilities across Apple’s product lineup.”

The Apple M5 chip isn't an incremental step. It's a bold stride toward a new period of AI- powered computing, reconsidering speed, effectiveness and artificial intelligence in every device it powers.
