Alexandr Wang thanks Meta AI team
In Short
Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang praised his team after major Muse launches, calling their progress remarkable while stressing that their work is far from over.

Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) chief Alexandr Wang
Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) chief Alexandr Wang has taken a moment to publicly thank the researchers, engineers and product teams behind Meta’s latest artificial intelligence efforts. Following the launch of the company’s new Muse AI models, Wang shared a lengthy message on X, formerly Twitter, praising the people who helped turn an ambitious target into reality.
Wang said he was “so grateful for every one” of the team members and described the recent launches as an important milestone for MSL. The organisation, along with its TBD team, was created a little more than a year ago with a bold objective: develop a frontier AI model in roughly a year.
The goal appeared especially difficult considering the reception of Meta’s earlier Llama 4 models. Wang acknowledged that several people believed the target was unrealistic. “Many people told us it would be impossible,” he wrote. “We knew it was unlikely, but still worth doing.”
Researchers and engineers from both within and outside Meta joined the project. Wang said they approached the challenge without worrying about traditional boundaries or responsibilities. “Every single person came in, picked up a shovel, and got to work with earnestness and urgency. Nobody asked whose job it was.”
A team built without deadlines
Interestingly, Wang said the group initially followed a “no deadlines” principle. The reasoning was that the team already had an enormous amount of work ahead, spanning pretraining, post-training, reinforcement learning, multimodal AI, infrastructure, safety, data and frontier research.
“There was no use setting arbitrary timelines,” he wrote. Instead, the priority was to begin the work and establish the foundations needed for frontier AI research as quickly as possible.
Wang also credited the team with developing more than individual AI models. “More than just the models we released this week, we have built a machine that builds new models,” he wrote.
He admitted that the idea of AI labs simply continuing to scale their systems can sometimes sound like “turning the crank.” But after seeing the process firsthand, Wang said he now understands how such a system can repeatedly improve AI models.
He described the researchers and engineers as “the most brilliant people I have ever had the opportunity to work with,” highlighting their dedication and willingness to investigate problems long after normal working hours.
Reflecting on the past year, Wang said: “I will remember this past year for the rest of my life.”
He also emphasised that the team's ambition extends beyond technical achievements. Wang said its work should ultimately benefit people and that researchers and engineers continue to focus on safety, alignment and responsible development.
Ending his message, Wang thanked everyone at MSL for contributing to what he called a “crazy journey” and made the team's next challenge clear: “I'm so grateful for every one of you, and our work is not done!”
