Matinee idol asserts during promotional tour of forthcoming ‘Sardar 2’ release

Actor Karthi
Madurai: Actor Karthi, who is awaiting the release of ‘Sardar 2’, on Wednesday expressed confidence that strong action would be taken against piracy, which he described as a major threat to box-office collections.
Addressing the press here during the ‘Sardar 2’ promotional tour, Karthi, responding to questions about films being leaked online within hours of their release, said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay understood the gravity of the issue and would take strong measures to protect the livelihoods of thousands of people dependent on theatrical releases.
Following the trailer launch, the cast, including Karthi and S J Suryah, interacted with the media and shared details about the film, which is set to hit theatres on September 10. The team also spoke about its statewide promotional campaign, which began with prayers at the Arulmigu Subramania Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur and interactions with fans at theatres in Tirunelveli before moving to a student event at Mangayarkarasi College of Arts and Science for Women in Madurai. Karthi said Madurai held a special place for him, while S J Suryah said the team planned to seek the blessings of Goddess Meenakshi. On the sequel’s thematic continuity, Karthi said that, as director P S Mithran had explored water-related issues in the first film, ‘Sardar 2’ addressed another pressing real-world concern through an action-packed narrative.
Discussing the film’s characters, Karthi highlighted the strong writing for its female roles, saying Ashika Ranganath and the other female actors had significant parts in the film. Ashika expressed excitement about her first visit to Madurai and praised the city’s cultural heritage and the enthusiastic response from college students. Speaking about the film’s environmental theme, S J Suryah said his character takes a stand against plastic pollution. While environmental concerns are widely acknowledged, he said, they are rarely reflected in people’s actions. The sequel, he added, explores the consequences of ignoring such warnings through an engaging narrative. Malavika Mohanan, Rajisha Vijayan, Yogi Babu and Achyuth Kumar round out the cast, with Sam CS composing the music. The film is the sequel to ‘Sardar’ (2022), a spy action thriller that featured Karthi in dual roles as a father and son.
