On Sunday, an Indian Air Force officer was arrested in Coimbatore for reportedly rapping a colleague. According to police officials, the alleged sexual assault occurred ten days ago.

Deepak Damon, a senior police official, verified that he was detained by police yesterday and placed in judicial detention for two days.

Investigators claim the alleged officer, in August, 30 Air Force officers from around India arrived at the Coimbatore Airforce College for instruction. During this time, a 29-year-old Flight Lieutenant, had travelled from Chattisgarh for instruction at the Air Force base near Race Course. The female officer was injured in the leg whilst playing basketball on September 10 and took painkillers before sleeping. A case of sexual assault has indeed been filed under section 376.
The investigator subsequently said that when she awoke in the middle of the night, she was surprised to find herself naked, alongside the accused officer.

The officer then indicated that she had submitted a complaint to higher-ups, but that nothing had been done about it. She went to the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, and the Gandhipuram All Women Police initiated an investigation, which resulted in the accused Lieutenant being detained.

Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, the suspect was brought before a magistrate and sentenced to a day in the Udumalaipet sub-jail. Whereas the police asked time to write a counter-affidavit, the suspect's lawyer filed an affidavit claiming that Coimbatore Police cannot arrest an Air Force official.
