Twitter reacts as India thump Bangladesh to book a semi-final slot in World Cup 2019

Match 40 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 saw India thump Bangladesh to seal a spot in the tournament's semi-finals.

Winning a crucial toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli chose to put runs on the board first and the team's openers didn't disappoint. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul looked in sublime touch as they took the Bangladeshi bowlers to the cleaners right from the start. Sharma, especially, took off from where he left in the previous innings while Rahul played the second fiddle. The Indian vice-captain looked unstoppable and went on to register his fourth century of the tournament.

The innings though lost momentum once both the openers were dismissed. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and MS Dhoni failed to kick on at the right time as Bangladesh pegged back the innings in their favour towards the end. The Indian batsmen once again couldn't score big in the last 10 overs and managed to put up 314 runs in their 50 overs.

Coming out to chase, Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals to dent their chances. Shakib Al Hasan, who was once again in top form, was found wanting of partners at the other end as Hardik Pandya chipped away with crucial wickets in the middle overs. Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das walked back to the pavilion after scoring good looking 20s and 30s.

Just when the writing was beginning to be taken for granted, Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin cut loose to send jitters into the Indian camp. The batsmen smashed a flurry of boundaries towards the end to keep Bangladesh in the hunt. However, the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah at the death proved too hot to handle for the Bangladeshi tail as the champion bowler cleaned them up to hand over a 28-run victory to the Men in Blue.

India's clinical performance has set the social media on fire with numerous fans and experts taking to Twitter to applaud Virat Kohli and his men for their effort.
