T20 World Cup 2020: 'It's a great feeling,' says captain Harmanpreet as India seal semi-final place
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said it’s a “great feeling” but she also added that they need to be wary of “silly mistakes” after Indian Eves defeated White Ferns and reached the semi-final at the T20 World Cup 2020.
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said it's a "great feeling" but she also added that they need to be wary of "silly mistakes" after Indian Eves defeated White Ferns and reached the semi-final at the T20 World Cup 2020.
After posting just 133 runs on the board in the first innings, Harmanpreet's side defended the small total as New Zealand ended up losing the close game by three runs.
Shafali Verma top-scored with 46 runs in 34 balls and took India to 133 for 8 in 20 overs. In the second innings, every Indian bowler bagged a wicket each and India became the first team to qualify for the last four. It was India's third win in as many matches and Harmanpreet couldn't have been more proud, who made a special mention about Shefali.
"It's a great feeling when your team performs day in day out. Still, we made the same mistakes after a good first ten overs, we got a good start but couldn't carry the momentum. We can't make silly mistakes with harder games coming up. Shafali is giving us good starts, her initial runs are crucial for us," Harmanpreet said in a post-match interview.
The match also saw New Zealand captain Sophie Devine's streak of six successive T20I fifties come to an end but she hailed her side for the fight they put up.
"I think the way the team nearly closed out the game today was fantastic. Green and Martin spent time in the middle and then Kerr did a brilliant job of getting us that close. That's all you can ask for. We can take a lot of positives from this game," Devine said.
Since their semi-final slot has been booked, India's upcoming Group A match against Sri Lanka could be used to work on their shortcomings ahead of big knock-out game coming up.
