Bangladeshi pacer Abu Jayed hopes to bowl like Mohammed Shami
Bangladeshi fast bowler Abu Jayed was one of the few positives for the visitors in the first Test against India at Indore.
Bangladeshi fast bowler Abu Jayed was one of the few positives for the visitors in the first Test against India at Indore. Accounting for four heavyweights of the Indian batting lineup in the first innings, Jayed was the pick of the bowlers for the Bangla Tigers. The speedster dismissed Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane to stand as the only shining light in Bangladesh's otherwise dismal bowling display.
Come the day/night Test at the Eden Gardens on 22 November and the fast bowler will be looking to lead the team's pace pack yet again. While both teams are currently busy preparing for the historic Test, Jayed has sought bowling advice from India's special weapon in the bowling department.
Mohammed Shami, who impressed one and all with exceptional exhibition of fast bowling in the Indore Test, seems to have offered a tip or two to the Bangladeshi cricketer. Stating that both he and Shami use seam to their strength, Jayed opined that there are similarities between both of them.
"I spoke with (Mohammad) Shami bhai yesterday (Saturday). There are some similarities between him and me since we both use the seam. I have seen him bowl a lot of times and I paid extra attention to how he was bowling. I have compared his height to mine to find out if he is taller than me or of equal height. Then I figured maybe I could bowl like him," the young seamer was quoted as saying in a report on the ICC website.
In a relatively young career, Abu Jayed has represented Bangladesh in 6 Test matches to take 15 wickets so far. The 26-year-old cricketer has also played two ODIs and picked a five-wicket-haul in his second game.
