Tandur: Residents of this town have got a rare opportunity to prepare 'Talambralu'(sacred rice used as a means of blessing) for the 'kalyanam' of Lord Rama and Sita in Bhadrachalam. They are mighty pleased with the opportunity, when Bhadradri temple's chief priest brought here 5 kg of grains.
The 'talambralu' are being prepared in the Panduranga temple on the Malreddypalli Road under the supervision of former Municipal chairperson K Vijayalaxmi. She told The Hans India that the task would be completed in all the main temples of the town after January 18. The 'talambralu' would be handed over to the priests of Bhadradri temple.
When asked why Tandur has been chosen, she gave the reason as Kotrik Venkatayya of the town being an ardent devotee of Lord Rama, who made it a point to attend the Sriramanavami celebratipons in Bhadrachalam every year along with his family members, besides offering any help as he deemed fit.
He had also raised huge donations from the local traders. Following the death of Venkatayya, his wife, Vijayalakshmi has taken up the task of preparing the 'talambralu'.
