Over 250 students partake in competition finals

​Hyderabad: Just a stone’s throw from Gandipet Lake, scores of school children had a wonderful time as they drew and painted to ring in Children’s Day that also culminated with the final of the drawing competition conceived by The Hans India in association with Delhi Public School and Pallavi International School.

By interpreting their ideas with paintbrush, the school children from across the city representing 30 top schools came up with astounding works of art reflecting different aspects of the theme they were provided impromptu on the occasion.

For the 250 students, it was a dream come true as they had to compete with 1,550 students on Tuesday before making it to the finals. Aptly titled ‘Draw a Dream- Explore your drawing skills’ the school students showed exemplary skill and maturity.

Many came up with brilliant work, for instance, a girl wrote the following words: “She is the creator of the world. Don’t destroy’ and came up with a pencil sketch of a woman in distress. In another painting, a person is seen cupping a child’s mouth and in yet another painting, a woman is seen reaching out to a star.

The members of the jury had a tough time not just on the semi-finals held at Delhi Public School, Nacharam on Monday but also on the finals. Filled with enthusiasm these school children arrived at the school’s sprawling campus, some of them along with their parents for taking part in the competitions.

While the Primary school children were given theme Zoo Park, the higher classes were given the theme ‘Save Girl’ (Beti Bachao). Some of the children who took part for the first time in the competitions were enthusiastic about letting loose their talent and imagination all over the big charts.

“I was surprised after my name was announced; I could not believe that my piece of work was selected for the top prize. I thank my teacher who helped me learn the drawings,” said Dhriti Nateri, studying 6th class in Bhavan’s Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya, who stood first amongst her peers in the drawing competition.

The Principal of the Pallavi International School (Gandipet), Nidhi Gera who feels that every child is born with talent was ecstatic that her school became the venue of the finals of this competition. “It is good that so many children representing different schools were taking active part in the competitions. Through drawing, these children can express their wonderful ideas,” she felt.

She encouraged all the students to continue drawing, even if they did not win. “Even if you could not win in this competition, your efforts could be recognised in the next competition,” she added.

At the end of the competition, the prizes were distributed amidst huge applause from both children and parents. While Singer Soni of Bahubali 2 fame who was the chief guest on the occasion, also entertained the kids with the song ‘Orori Raja…’.

This was first of its kind experience for the children as the topics were spontaneous, all they had to use their imagination during the limited time of the competition. “I did not know the topic and all that was my imagination. My parents have been encouraging me in this and I was prepared to face the challenge,” said L Saveri, the first prize winner in junior category.

Earlier in the semi finals, the themes were My Dream, Nature, Mom and Me, Good Habits and Scenery for the juniors and Power of Vote, Change your fate-Using your vote, ‘Books or e-learning’ which is best for next generation, Swacch Bharat Abhiyan and Save Energy Save Environment for senior classes.
