Supriya Lahoti, daughter of art curators Rekha and Prashant Lahoti, owner of Gallery café has come-up with a design studio called ‘Creatif’. The ‘Creatif’ boutique, is a design studio, and an extension of Kalakriti Art Gallery, Banjara Hills, and the merchandise is evidently an extension of art.
Supriya says that this idea was there in her mind since four-years. She says, “When I was doing my under-graduation and masters in UK, I have travelled quite a lot in Europe and I have been seen the small curio shops, design shops which have things that are made locally by the craftsmen there, but very premium and good quality things. Being an art history student, I couldn’t resist the idea of bringing this concept to my hometown. I wanted to create a space like that and display and elevate the art. Hence, ‘Creatif’.”
The boutique is run by an all-girls team. Madhulika Jhawar is the merchandiser, who sources and curates for the beautiful store. She says, “Our store thrives to celebrate contemporary art and traditional crafts. Curating stories through design, we are producing and handpicking products that are unique. Our collections are made in association with artists and artisans/craftsmen.”
“Our collection includes jewellery, wellness, fashion accessories, vintage collectibles, stationery, dining ware, furnishing and decor. Our in-house range of products are designed in collaboration with artists like Jogen Chowdhury, Avijit Dutta and Seema Kohli. Our design team integrates functionality, aesthetics and quality into every product. Along with our inhouse collections, we also house brands with the same ethos. Our assemblage includes brands such as Kesya, The Cobalt Company, Pulp India, The Yarn Story, Rosado Jaipur and Moha By Geetanjali among others,” she adds.
“Art is the pursuit of self-discovery through creation,” says Supriya. “Our aim at ‘Creatif’ is to bridge the gap between artist and consumer and our boutique gives you that very opportunity. We want to transform spaces with masterpieces that are made by hand and weave you into each artisan’s story through your purchases and support,” she adds.
