Jinsha Basheer, a woman biker, from Alleppey in Kerala has been helping scores of people through her video blogs (vlogs). Jinsha is fondly called as the Good Samaritan on social networking site Facebook. When asked how did vlogging start she shares that once when she was visiting a petrol pump to fill her bike, there she saw the staff adulterating the fuel. Although she reprimanded them, her words fell on a deaf ear. Resolute to do something she recorded the whole thing and posted it on Facebook.
The vlog dated October 1, 2017, garnered around 7,200 likes and that kick-started her vlogging journey. Jinsha also started a YouTube channel, through which she makes around Rs. 70,000 per month she makes 20 videos per month and has about two million viewers which receives about 10,000 likes. However, earning money thorough vlogs is not her inspiration. Her aim is to help people in need and that is her sole motivation.
A software engineer by profession she quit her lucrative job around seven months ago to pursue vlogging fulltime. Till now she has done about 150+ videos. Her Facebook page has 3,36,000 followers, YouTube channel has 52,000 subscribers and her fan group has about 30,000 members. About her moniker the Good Samaritan she says, “I feel very happy when such a good name is given to me. I like charity works a lot which resembles me quite like a Good Samaritan.
Being a traditional family; did it ever stop you from your work? “In the beginning, I faced a lot of problems. Now, most of the people understand what I am doing. However, I still get opposed by certain groups and people,” she shares. Jinsha had a keen interest in riding and she started riding a bike when she was in Class X. She informs that her husband and father are her inspiration.
About her vlogging, she says, “Now, I am using very basic equipment for shooting, editing, etc. I need to upgrade my equipment to shoot better videos as I am planning to do more charity videos every month for the needy. I connect with people around the country through FB and try to showcase their problems through my vlogs. When kind-hearted people and NGO watch my videos, they come forward to help the needy. I make sure that my vlogs reach every individual through,” she adds.
“I recorded the plight of one-year-old Ayesha of Malappuram, who needed a bone marrow transplant. Within a month, Ayesha’s family had received donations amounting to Rs 30 lakh! Similar was the case of late Shaan Shahul, who lost his life just 25 days after he had left to Gulf. My video recording of the family’s despair was taken up by the Saudi-based Al Khaseem NRI Group, who donated Rs 11 lakh to Shaan’s family received a total amount of 14 lakh, which makes me happy as these were one of my biggest help through the videos,” shares the Good Samaritan.
Shunning people who say that she is doing vlogs for publicity she shares, “Video Blogging is my job. Just think an actor doing his job and publicity gradually generates. Same things happen here too.” Any message you want to give for the women today? “I am not a feminist, but I do not believe in the rules that ask a woman to keep her mouth shut just because men feel that they only have the right to speak.
I believe in the religion that I follow, but I am not ready to blind to accept things that a community imposes on its people. No religion has ever preached that women need not raise their voices against the odds in society. It is the religious leaders and other people who twist the guidelines of the religion according to their wish. Boy or girl that doesn’t matter, give your opinion loud and clear anywhere you feel like and that is exactly what I am doing.”
