Warangal: The public sector telecom services provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is aiming to spread the fibre to the home (FTTH) services to every mandal in the erstwhile Warangal district.
The BSNL plans to achieve this in association with local multiple-system operators (MSOs-cable operators) appointing them as the franchises to overcome the funds crunch in developing infrastructure in rural areas.
The company has already secured a customer base of 2500 FTTH users in urban areas and some pockets in rural areas wherein high-speed broadband internet cum landline services are launched for the first time in the State in Warangal telecom district in December 2016.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, the BSNL, Warangal circle, Principal General Manager (PGM) K Narender informed that the FTTH services were now available in Agency areas like Bhupalapally, Mulug and Mahabubabad along with Narsampet, Nekkonda, Chennaraopet, Gudur, Kesamudram, Thorrur, Maripeda Station Ghanpur, Raghunathpalli, Palakurthi and Parkal mandals.
The service recorded highest penetration in rural areas in erstwhile Warangal.
It is aimed to reach all mandals in the district by March next year. “We are going to sign an agreement with three MSOs on Monday,” the PGM revealed.
Offering FTTH services will be a profitable venture for the MSOs.
Interested cable operators could approach the BSNL for becoming the franchises and can boost their income, he said adding the revenue share which was 35 per cent in the past was increased to 50 per cent now if they reached the targetted number of connections.
Narender further informed that the BSNL was in the process of offering FTTH services to the Police Department which was installing closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) in rural areas.
The police approached many franchises in rural areas in this connection and it will help in expanding the subscriber base.
The FTTH offers a landline connection and a wi-fi router.
The consumers can choose the required bandwidth based on their requirements and choose a plan of Rs 645 and above to enjoy free phone calls across the country to any network. Hence people shall opt for the BSNL FTTH services, he appealed.
“It is a budget-friendly service and does not emit radiation like in the case of mobile phones,”
Narender said adding, “The BSNL is going to introduce attractive subscriber plans from June 1 on par with private telecom operators.”
Expanding its mobile network on Telangana-Chhattisgarh borders, mobile towers had been set up at Tupakulagudem and Devadula, he informed.
The PGM cautioned that according to the latest guidelines issued by the Union Telecom Department, local telecom infra providers cannot resale their bandwidth to others.
It will be considered illegal and lead to the cancellation of their licenses.
