Mancherial: Regular daily inspections will improve the working of 969 anganwadi centres in the district, Mancherial ICDS Project Director Rauf Khan expressed confidence.

The PD on Friday instructed the angwanwadi organisers to open the centres from 9 am to 4 pm and warned that action would be taken against those who fail to keep the centres open as per schedule.

Doctors will conduct regular checkups of pregnant and lactating women and they would be enquired about the kind of food being supplied to them. He admitted that working of anganwadi centres was not satisfactory due to lack of proper supervision.

Khan told The Hans India that special focus was laid now to ensure 969 anganwadi centres under the ICDS projects at Thandur, Bellampalli, Chennoor, Mandamarri and Luxettipet would perform better. He said there were 500 ‘pucca’ buildings for anganwadi centres while they run in government schools and in others in rented buildings. The rents ranged from Rs 750 (in urban areas) to Rs 3,000 (in municipalities).

The ICDS PO revealed that there are five child development project officers and 15 supervisors, as against the need of 25, in the 969 anganwadi centres. At present 902 anganwadi workers are working and there are vacant posts in 65 centres.
