Secunderabad: At the outpatient ward, it was an impatient wait for hundreds of patients lined up here on Thursday due to the strike called by 800 junior doctors at the Gandhi Hospital. The doctors have been raising their voice and seeking the Health Minister’s intervention to assure better security at the hospital.

The strike comes in the wake of an assault on a junior doctor Karthik at the pediatric department by the grandmother of a two-month-old infant who passed away during the treatment on Tuesday evening.

Around 800 junior doctors from Gandhi Hospital boycotted elective services since Tuesday and have boycotted their emergency services from Thursday afternoon.

“We want the Health Minister to visit and address the situation himself and give an assurance that legal action would be taken on the attendants who assaulted the doctor. Only then will we retain the emergency services,” said Nagarjun member of Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA).

“This is a core hospital in the city and it is Health Minister’s responsibility to address the situation as he is a public representative and the patients are getting affected by this. It’s been 72 hours and no proper action has been taken on the situation and that’s why we have boycotted the emergency services also from today afternoon. “

The DME visited the hospital but the doctors have no faith as there have been instances when assurances were not kept up.
