Somajiguda: With an aim to set right all the distortions made in writing the history of the newly-formed State, Telangana Council of Historical Research (TCHR) was formed this year with members comprising history scholars, students, aficionados, and those who are interested in knowing the history of the State.

Addressing a press conference at Somajiguda Press Club here on Thursday, T Vivek, former member of Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) and secretary of TCHR, said, “The Council is primarily intended to set right all the distortions that are made in the process of writing history wittingly or unwittingly by some groups. Today, history has become a resource to serve purposes for certain individuals with certain agenda and particularly post formation of Telangana there are certain set of people who are taking history through a very treacherous course.

Our emphasis is to look at primary source of information which give new dimensions to already existing facts by any documentary evidences.”He said that the council would love to write a comprehensive history of Telangana as it believes that if a society has no memory of its past then it is condemned to repeat its mistakes and people have to come forward for the sake of youth and future generations to make a proper, authentic, credible history of Telangana, he added.

As a remedy to the situation, TCHR is promoting studies on India and Deccan in general and Telangana in particular and co-ordinating with similar organizations to serve as forum for exchange of views through annual sessions and conferences and help in locating and preserving sources of information of historical and archaeological nature.
