​Hyderabad: Wishing that the Telangana state gets timely and bountiful rains and for the overall benefit of the people as well as successful continuation of all welfare measures the government had initiated and proposed to introduce, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday commenced his five-day Sahasra Chandi Yagam amidst Vedic chants at his sprawling 100-acre farmhouse in Erravalli village in his Gajwel Assembly segment of Siddipet district. The yagnam will concluded on Friday afternoon after Poornaahuti.

Chief Minister also prayed to the goddess to remove the obstacles in completing the flagship programmes taken up by the government on schedule. The yagam has been taken up under the stewardship of Swami Swaroopananda Swamy of Visakhapatnam and with the blessings of Jagadguru Sringeri Peetadhipati Bharathi Teertha Swamy. Around 300 Ritviks, including Vedic scholars from Sringeri Peetham in Karnataka and from Maharashtra and from Telangana were engaged to conduct the Yagam. The Chief Minister along with his wife performed various rituals. Only MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and family members of the Chief Minister were allowed to participate in the programme.

On first day, Durga Saptsati Parayanam was conducted. A special vehicle with thousand modaks before the commencement of the ritual was made ready. Later rituals were performed before the cows and prayers were offered to the gurus. As part of the rituals KCR couple, who have celebrated golden jubilee in their marital life, also performed Kanyakumari puja . Four yagnams were conducted for about 3 hours.

State Legislative Council Chairman Swami Goud, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy, Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, TRS secretary-general K Kesava Rao, Medak Lok Sabha member Prabhakar Reddy and several other TRS leaders were present. In view of the VIP movement in the next four days, stringent security arrangements were made abutting the farm house. All TRS MPs, MLCs, MLAs and other state and district TRS leaders were invited to witness the yagam. General public will also be allowed to take part in the yagam during the last two days.
