Secunderabad: On the eve of Sankranthi festival, railway authorities beefed up security at various railway stations in the city. To ensure the safe journey of passengers, additional forces were brought from other states, increased train patrolling and strength of escorts. Government railway police (GRP) and Railway protection force (RPF) have made elaborate arrangements for safety of passengers. Checks are being conducted at stations and suspicious persons are being interrogated. Police have been kept alert on platforms as well as each gate of railway stations. Special measures are being taken to prevent chain snatchings, and thefts. On the eve of the festival, SCR is running 147 special trains to meet the festival rush.
Ashok Kumar, SP, GRP said that additional forces were specially brought from others states to beef up the security at city railway stations. He assured public that tight security arrangements have been made to ensure safety of passengers. He appealed railway passengers to be alert of thefts and not to carry valuable goods or ornaments along with them during their journey. People can contact GRP toll-free number 1512, 944070040 or control room at 100 if any suspicious person or incident is observed, he said. He urged passengers to be careful while alighting or getting into trains. On this occasion, Ashok Kumar extended Sankranthi greetings to people of both the Telugu states and wished them happy and safe journey.
