Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation has been regularly hosting ‘Celebrating Theatre’ talk series and the monthly theatre weekends have engaged and enthused the city’s arts lovers. The initiative that had begun two years ago has become highly popular. Past Theatre Weekends curated by Padmashri recipient, theatre revivalist Mohammad Ali Baig have featured a mix of eminent arts practitioners and young and promising theatre makers.
Talking about Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation’s Theatre Weekend, Shruti Verma, Cultural Coordinator at Alliance Francaise says, “Theatre Weekends is a very good concept; it makes people spend time on meaningful diversions”. Poet Suhas Bhatnagar comments, “I feel privileged when I attend all the Theatre Weekend events and I look forward to beginning the year on this note.” "As a part of our CSR initiative we work closely with the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation and have been supporting their efforts in bring meaningful theatre to Hyderabad for the last 13 years,”said Adhiraj Parthasarathy, Director, Karvy Group.
The January 2019 edition of Theatre Weekend features two literature-based plays by renowned artistes. Rising theatre director Atul Satya Koushik from New Delhi brings ‘Kahani Teri Meri’ based on two heart-wrenching stories by legendary Hindi writers Dharamveer Bharati and Premchand. It is a humorous and thought-provoking social commentary on relationships that get influenced by factors such as age and social class. The play features renowned theatre, film and television actor Aanjjan Srivastav as a Sutradhar along with a talented cast of 15 from Delhi.
Popular theatre and film actor-director Danish Hussain performs in ‘Qissebaazi’ alongside Tushar Kadam. Drawing from a dramatic mélange of stories from Dastan-e-Amir Hamza and folktales by A.K. Ramanujam, ‘Qissebaazi’ is in the traditional storytelling style of Daastangoi that is captivating.
