Hyderabad: The State capital city will be hosting an International Trade & Technology Fair on Indian Fisheries & Aquaculture. The event is being organized by Society for Indian Fisheries & Aquaculture (SIFA), in association with Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Telangana, AquaApp. Titled as AquaEx India 2019, the three-day international event will be held from January 31 to February 2 at Hitex Exhibition Center.
The three-day event is expected to attract over 200 exhibitors from Fishery and Aquaculture countries and regions across the world. The organizers said, “The fisheries sector provides employment, income and livelihood for about 14.5 million people in the country. The fish production has increased from 0.75 MMT in 1950-51 to about 10.79 MMT during 2016-17 and the production over the years has shifted from captured fisheries to aquaculture during the period. In the last four decades, aquaculture has emerged as the major source for increasing fish production as captured fisheries has declined and stagnated by the turn of the century. In the second edition, it is proposed to have knowledge conclave on quality fish seed, fish feed and quality fish on January 31, February 1 and February 2 respectively.
The objective of the first day on quality fish seed is to emphasize the importance of genetically improved fish seed in enhancing the fish production, need for introduction of new fish species, need for preparation of state specific action plan for quality fish seed supply chain in both government and private sector. The second days topic is – Role of quality feeds to increase the fish production and farmers income. The objective is to emphasize the importance of quality fish feed with species specific, age specific, weather specific feeds and prepare a road map to promote feed based aquaculture. Third day topic is – Hygienic handling of fish for domestic market and the objective is to create awareness on the national standards for fish and fish products and to assess need for fish processing and value addition for domestic market.
The Society for Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture was formed to address the issues of the fisheries and aquaculture industry to achieve increased production, productivity and profitability and sustainability. SIFA will serve as a common platform to address the needs of all stakeholders of the industry to achieve Blue Revolution in the country in doubling the farmer’s income by 2022. quaculture aids agriculture in a big way by consuming by-products of primary Agriculture.
