Musheerabad: On the eve of 70th International Human Rights Day, the National Adivasi Solidarity Council (NASC), Foundation for Sustainable Development, International justice mission and Telangana State Labour and Employment Department jointly held a convention of freed bonded labour at Sundaraiah Vignan Kendram on Friday.
Addressing the convention, the chief guest of the convention High Court retired judge Chandrayya opined that illiteracy was the root of all the problems in the society. Only by providing education to all, the society can be enlightened, he said. He suggested voluntary organizations fighting for human rights take help of judges of all courts ranging from local to state-level courts and form injustice committees to sort out human rights and exploitation issues.
SC, ST tribal commission Telangana state member Paka Devaiah said the main reason for the exploitation of labour was lack of commitment among officials. He urged the government officials to strive for eliminating bonded labor in the State. He suggested that children of labourers be given reservations to encourage them to get educated. The exploitation of children would end only when they get educated, he said. Social activists Vasudeva Rao, Ramesh, Lakshmi Prasad, Venkataiah and others participated in the convention.
