Adilabad: With election campaign gathering momentum, the election authorities and police began efforts to prevent illegal transportation of money and liquor.
There have been instances of candidates and leaders stocking up money and liquor in safe locations. To keep a check on illegal transportation of liquor and money, the election officials along with the police intensified vehicle checking in the erstwhile Adilabad district.
Four-wheeler, especially cars and vans, mini buses and other vehicles were being checked at all important places and the police are seizing money if found during the checking. The persons, who were carrying the cash, were told to take the money after producing valid documents regarding the cash.
Adilabad district police seized Rs 10,48,080 unaccounted cash and 959 litres of liquor worth Rs 3,96,000 till date. Nirmal district police seized unaccounted cash of Rs 64, 95,252 and 2,224 litres of liquor, while Komaram Bheem district police seized Rs 11, 09,780 cash and 453.91 litres of liquor worth Rs 1,55,455. The amount was handed over to the income tax officials for investigation.
