Nagarkurnool: The Madasi and Madari Kuruva community people on Friday demanded the government that their community which at present is grouped under Backward Class category be recognised as Scheduled Caste and accordingly be issued caste certificates.

The Mdasi and Kuruva communities’ people had a meeting in Kollapur mandal of Nagarkurnool district on Friday. The leaders of Madari/Madasi Kuruva who eke their living by sheep rearing belonged to SCs before Telangana was merged with erstwhile Andhra Pradesh in 1956.

“Before formation of AP our community was grouped under SC category. However, after AP formation in 1956, with the demographic changes, we were forced into BC categories as the authorities are thrusting upon us the status of BCs with the nomenclature of Kuruma or Kuruba that matches with that of those Kuruva communities in BC,” observed a Madari community leader.

Now as Telangana is carved as a new state and their population in Telangana has considerably decreased, the Madari and Madasi community people are demanding the government to once again categorise them as SCs and accordingly issue SC caste certificates.
