Nizamabad: Bajireddy Govardhan, who is known as straightforward, started his political career as the Sarpanch of Chimanpally village, 60 kms east of district headquarters Nizamabad. The three-time MLA is contesting from Nizamabad Rural constituency which he won in 2014 on TRS ticket with a thumping majority against senior Congress leader and former minister Dharmapuri Srinivas.
In an interview with The Hans India, he said that people are aware of the development taken place not in just in Nizamabad Rural but also in the State during the last four-and-a-half-year.
Nizamabad Rural is a key constituency in the district which has umpteen number of rice mills, showrooms etc besides Telangana University and TSSP 7th Battalion has a lot of potential for generating employment opportunities. Bajireddy aims at establishing a skill development centre so that to prepare industry-ready manpower.
THI: Tell us about your campaign and people’s response?
Bajireddy: So far, I have covered 60-odd villages and the people’s response is instant. In fact, a lot of villagers are coming forward voluntarily to support the TRS so that it retains power. Be it the sheep distribution scheme or the fisheries development scheme, the beneficiaries are happy with the TRS government’s initiative. In fact, all the welfare schemes introduced by the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao are a huge hit among the poor and lower middleclass. The welfare schemes speak volumes for TRS success in last four and a half years.
THI: What about the developmental works taken up in Nizamabad Rural constituency?
Bajireddy: Apart from welfare, the upgradation of tandas into panchayats is another major success of the government. In Rural constituency, 59 tandas have been turned into panchayats and of which 50 are habitations of scheduled tribes. In my constituency, about 65,000 people are being benefited under various pension schemes.
Our focus is on providing irrigation facility to all the acreage in the segment. Efforts are on to provide irrigation facility to 1.04 lakh acres through piped water. Such a system is only seen in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. Tendering process has been completed and the project would be realised in a couple of years. The government sanctioned Rs 24 crore for the expansion of Munipally Lift Irrigation Scheme and another Rs 28 crore for the modernisation distributory system.
The 765/400 kv GIS sub-station at Mittapally that connects Telangana with North-East-West grid falls in Nizamabad Rural constituency.
THI: What is your poll agenda?
Bajireddy: TRS’ focus is on all round development of the State while ensuring social justice. The TRS government tried its best to introduce 12 per cent reservations to the tribes but that initiative is pending in Delhi. The TRS’ decision to extend the double bedroom house scheme facility to those who have a piece of land would augur well in expediting the scheme. Land purchase scheme will be expedited so that to ensure three acres land scheme to all the Dalit beneficiaries.
