Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has almost finalised the candidates for the remaining 12 seats for which it has not named its pick so far but is waiting for the opposition camp to announce the names of their candidates. According to sources, TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao has finalised the names of the candidates. He is waiting for the Mahakutami to make an announcement regarding their candidates.
The TRS was the first to announce its candidates for the elections and the party president announced 105 candidates in one go. The TRS chief recently announced the names of candidates for two more seats. Now there are 12 more seats for which the party candidates have not been named. According to sources, the party has “almost decided” on the candidates and in some constituencies, there is “more than one candidate in the race”.
Sources said that former Minister Danam Nagender’s name has been finalised for the Khairatabad Assembly constituency. However, there is intense competition among TRS leaders in this constituency. The leaders who are expecting this ticket include party in-charge Manne Goverdhan (who unsuccessfully contested last election), P Vijaya Reddy (daughter of former CLP leader P Janardhan Reddy), G Vijayalakshmi (both corporators).
In Musheerabad, the party is learnt to have decided to give ticket to Mutha Gopal.
However, Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy is pitching for ticket to his son-in-law Srinivas Reddy, who is Ramnagar corporator. Sources said that the party is zeroing in on former MLA Prem Singh Rathore for the Goshamahal seat.
However, he is facing competition from Nandkishore Vyas Bilal (party in-charge), Mukesh Singh (Goshamahal corporator) has also thrown his hat in the ring. In Amberpet, the party wants to give the ticket to K Venkatesh. However, former minister C Krishna Yadav and Y Sudhakar are also expecting the ticket. In Charminar, the party is likely to give ticket to Dipankar Pal. The TRS candidate who contested last time from here, Inayat Ali Baqri, has been shifted to Bahadurpura.
Sources said that ticket for the Malkajgiri constituency would be given to TRS city president Mynampally Hanumanth Rao. Hanumanth Rao has already started campaigning in the constituency. The Medchal constituency ticket would be given to Malkajgiri MP Ch Malla Reddy.
In the districts, Warangal East ticket is likely to be given to city mayor N Narender. This seat belonged to Konda Surekha, who had left the party. Former Minister B Saraiah, women’s wing president G Sudharani are also expecting tickets from here. In Choppadandi, the party is slated to deny ticket to sitting MLA Bodige Shobha and S Ravi Shankar is slated to get the ticket. Both Shobha and Ravi Shankar have been campaigning in the constituency.
The party is looking to field S Saidi Reddy from Huzurnagar, the constituency represented by TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy. Telangana martyr Srikantha Chary’s mother K Shankaramma on Thursday said that she would work as per the instructions of the party. She said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao would always back her family. In Vikarabad, the party wants to field T Vijay Kumar. For Kodada, the party is likely to give ticket to V Chander Rao.
Sources said that the party was now waiting for the Mahakutami to release the list of their candidates. If there is delay on the part of Mahakutami, the TRS candidates would be announced before the TRS chief goes on campaign.
